• Then we'll begin viewing and discussing the film Cast Away, focusing on how it portrays a code hero and making connections to your paper topics.

Happy rainy day. Here's what we'll be doing in class today:

• Notes: We'll discuss the purpose and structure of body paragraphs in literary analysis papers. 
• We'll read and discuss Ch. 14-16, the end of Shane.
• You'll complete Rdg. Quiz: Ch. 12-13.
• You'll have WORK TIME for the following: 
• GUMS II (It was due yesterday, but a number of you still need to turn it in.)
• Final Paper (Due 10/6) - I'll come check your introduction and body paragraphs as they progress. 

Wednesday, September 27th

• Notes: You'll take notes on the structure and purpose of an Introductory Paragraph for a Literary Analysis. 
• We'll read and discuss Ch. 12-13 of Shane. 
• You'll take the Ch. 8-11 Reading Quiz. 
• You'll have WORK TIME for the following: 
• GUMS Part II (Due Today)
• Final Paper (Due Friday, 10/6) - Put those introductory paragraph skills to work!

Tuesday, September 26th

• We'll read and discuss Ch. 10-11 of Shane. 
• I'll distribute the final paper assignment for this quarter. 
• WORK TIME:
• You'll select your topic. 
• You'll craft and submit your thesis. (Due Today)
• Work on GUMS Part II. (Due Tomorrow)
• One-on-one grade checks. 

Monday, September 25th

Happy last Monday of September! Here's what we'll do in class today:

• Notes: You'll take notes as we discuss Thesis Statements, focusing on formulating arguable claims versus simple statements of fact. 
• You'll write a thesis statement about either Shane or The Old Man and the Sea and share it in class. We'll all discuss each claim and classify each as an arguable claim or a statement of fact.
• We'll read and discuss Chapter 8 of Shane. (Rdg. Quiz: Ch. 8-11 Tomorrow)
• You'll have WORK TIME for the following: 
• Rdg. Quiz: Ch. 4-7.
• Read Chapter 9 on your own. 
• GUMS Part II due Wednesday. 

Friday, September 22nd

• We'll read and discuss Ch. 6 of Shane.
• You'll have Work Time for the following:
• Read Ch. 7 of Shane on your own and take good notes. Write and turn in 3-5 quiz questions for Chapter 7. (Rdg. Quiz: Ch. 4-7 on Monday) 
• Finish and turn in GUMS Part One.

• Then we'll continue viewing Star Wars.
